1990 Pearson Electronics Commercial Found

It's really strange. I found this dusty Pearson Electronics commercial VHS tape while going through my father's belongings yesterday when I visited, but I don't recall the content, even though I remember seeing it on TV in the early '90s - both before and after my father bought me my first Cal. I've recorded a digital version of this tape using an old CRT that I borrowed from a retro collector friend, since people really don't sell them anymore these days. I apologize for the quality of this video... after all, it has been over thirty years...

There was also a printed note stuck to it, so I'll just leave it here for anybody to read:

Holy WOW! I think you just uncovered a piece of lost media! This hasn’t been seen since it first aired. Pearson only played this in select areas of the country for a short time in 1990 before being replaced by a newer version. Major props to you for finding this, and a big shoutout to your dad too!

why would they have released it ONLY in specific areas of the country though? was it just supposed to be a temporary advert or something?

to be honest, this is a pretty common thing for companies to do. pearson wasn't any different. companies usually often run ads in areas where they think the product will appeal most, just to get some feedback and save money. then based on what they learn, they’ll either tweak the ad or roll it out more broadly if it’s already working well. but pearson only used to do that during its early days. now EVERYBODY has some sort of recognizable pearson device.

is this real? like, you didn't make this yourself? if it is then congrats, you found some Pearson lost media.

Yep, it’s legit. Folks over on the Pearson subyappr were describing the ad exactly like this for a while now, and the original poster is an actual Pearson employee.

interesting how pearson used to do discounts like this. my uncle had to pay the full 2.5k for that Cal model but your dad didn't? ok then...

Actually, they USED to do *employee* discounts back in the 90's and early 2000s, so unless your uncle did work for Pearson then he wouldn't have gotten one. Sorry bud.

oooh the Cal 64X. i looooove this Cal model, it's a classic and pretty much what every average monitor head oc is based off of, even mine lmao.

tbh the original eCals, like the G3 and such, were a little better in terms of design imo. i love that transparent "Bloopi Blue" casing. a few of my ocs are based on that design.

let's agree to disagree, friend :) although I'd still love to see your eCal G3 oc!!
